Battery Introduction, Maintenance and User Guide

Use this article to learn the basics of using your KG4 battery, including how to power on the battery, remove the battery, check the battery charge level, battery range and life expectations.

Keego Mobility KG4 second battery tray combines with the controller

Battery, Charger and Battery Tray Introduction

  1. KG4 uses an external Lithium-Ion battery using Samsung 21700 cells, 36V/10Ah, 36V15Ah and 36V/25Ah, with a Battery Management System (BMS).
  2. The second, or rear, battery try is combined with the controller.  The battery tray delivers power from the battery to the rest of the bike.
  3. Front battery tray (optional)
    1. If your KG4 has two batteries, Keego Mobility will install an additional battery tray in the front location
  4. Charger
    1. KG4 use a DC plug fast charger
    2. AC-input :110V~220V
    3. DC-output:42V3A

Battery Keys

  1. To prevent the batteries from being stolen, they can be locked to the frame with a key.
  2. Turn the battery or using one of the two identical keys included with your KG4.
  3. Turn the key port to the locked position, and you can lock your battery on the frame.
  4. Turn the key port to the unlocked position, and you can remove your battery from the frame.
  5. If you ever lose the keys to your battery and need replacements, look at the keyhole on the battery. You should find there a key code with a letter and a two or three digit numerical code. When you order a new key, you will need this code.

Checking the Battery Charge Level

  1. There are two ways to check a battery’s current charge level.
    1. Battery gauge
      1. Stand at the side of the bike. Make sure you’re not sitting on the ebike when you check the battery level, and that the charger is not plugged into the battery.
      2. Press the button next to the LEDs. The LEDs on the battery gauge will illuminate. The higher the number of LEDs that are illuminated, the higher your current battery level.
    2. Ebike Display
      1. While the ebike is turned on, the display shows a battery gauge on the right side of the Combo Display or on the left side of the Color Display screen.

Key Battery Information

  1. Range
    1. The range that you get from the KG4 depends on the size of your battery, riding characteristics, how much pedal assist and throttle is used, amount of cargo weight carried, terrain, hills, and tire inflation.
  2. Battery life
    1. Battery life depends on several factors, including how frequently an owner discharges and recharges the battery, a rider who drains a full battery and recharges it back to full every day, seven days a week, will see about 2.5 years of life from their battery before starting to starting to decreasing battery capacity.
  3. Best practices for extending range and battery life
    1. Avoid applying full throttle when your ebike has slowed to a very low speed, has stalled, or stopped.
    2. Use your legs to pedal to assist the motor when climbing hills and accelerating from a stop.
    3. Do not climb hills steeper than 15% in grade.
    4. Avoid sudden starts and stops.
    5. Accelerate slowly.
    6. Avoid riding in extremely cold or hot temperatures.
  4. Recommended temperature ranges
    1. Batteries depend on chemical reactions to charge and to release energy, and these reactions are most efficient at moderate temperatures. At very low temperatures, the battery may not charge or release energy efficiently or at all. At very high temperatures, the battery can get too hot, causing internal damage or even a fire hazard. The battery is designed to shut off automatically at extreme temperatures, but riders still need to be careful.
    2. KG4 recommended battery operating (riding) temperature range: -20°C to 45°C
  5. Sleep mode
    1. The KG4 battery has sleep mode. After 24 hours of inactivity, it will automatically shut down to keep the battery’s life as long as possible.
    2. To wake up the battery, just push the battery power button for 1 second.
    3. To turn off the battery, push the battery power button for 3 seconds.
